Why Diving Is One of the Best Things a Couple Can Do in Side
Most holiday activities put you next to each other: you watch a show, you lie on a beach, you share a table. Scuba diving is different. Underwater, you and your partner become a team in the most literal sense — divers always dive with a buddy, keep an eye on each other, and share every discovery with a glance instead of words. For couples visiting Side, a guided dive day is a chance to do something genuinely new together, with a professional instructor beside you the entire time.
At Side Diving we run five full-day boat trips along the Antalya coast, and every one of them works well for two — whether you both dive, or one of you dives while the other snorkels and enjoys the boat. You do not need any experience, and you do not need a licence for the guided programme.
The Underwater Museum: A Backdrop You Will Not Find Anywhere Else
If you only do one dive together, make it the Side Underwater Museum trip (€45, a full day of about 7 hours). Around 110 sculptures rest on the seabed at roughly 12 metres, turning the dive into a slow swim through a gallery that happens to be underwater. You can hand-feed the fish that have made the statues their home, and because groups are kept to a maximum of 3–4 divers per instructor, you will never lose each other in a crowd — your instructor keeps the two of you together throughout.
The day is structured gently for beginners: the morning dive stays at 5–8 metres for 15–25 minutes so you can get used to breathing underwater side by side, and the afternoon dive goes to 12–13 metres — exactly where the sculptures wait.
How a Couple's Dive Day Works
- Free hotel pickup: we collect you in the morning and bring you back afterwards; the exact time is confirmed the evening before, so there is no guessing.
- Full briefing: before anyone gets wet, your instructor explains the equipment, the hand signals and the plan for both dives.
- Two guided dives: a shallow morning dive of 15–25 minutes at 5–8 metres, then a deeper afternoon dive to 12–13 metres.
- Everything included: all equipment including a wetsuit, a fresh lunch on board, and passenger and diving insurance.
If One of You Does Not Dive
Not a problem — and no reason to split up for the day. Non-diving partners join the same boat as visitors or snorkelers at a reduced rate, enjoy the swimming stops and the lunch, and are waiting on deck with a towel when you surface. Many couples alternate: one partner try-dives in the morning while the other takes photos from the boat, and notes are compared over lunch.
Ways to Make the Day Feel Special
- Underwater photos and video: an optional extra (price on request). A picture of the two of you floating between museum sculptures is a souvenir very few couples ever have — mention it when you book.
- Private arrangements: on request we can shape a more private experience for two. Contact us and tell us what you are planning — especially if there is a question you intend to ask underwater.
- The logbook moment: after the dives your instructor signs your logbook. Doing it side by side, with salt still in your hair, is a small ritual worth keeping.
- Learn together: if the day hooks you both, CMAS courses are available on request — a shared certification is a shared plan for the next holiday.
Honest Practical Notes for Couples
Diving has clear health rules and we do not bend them: diving is not possible during pregnancy, or with severe asthma, heart or respiratory conditions. If either of you is unsure about anything, consult your doctor and the standard diving medical form before your holiday — we will never diagnose anyone, and we would rather answer questions early than disappoint you at the boat. One more rule that matters for holiday planning: do not fly within 24 hours after diving, so schedule your dive day at least one full day before your flight home.
As for timing: the sea off Antalya runs from around 17°C in winter to a bath-warm 28–29°C in late summer, and visibility is generally at its best from late spring to early summer and again in autumn. Summer is wonderful but busy; in winter many operators wind down, so simply message us for current availability.
Booking Without Stress
Reserving costs nothing: you book free, pay on the day of the trip, and can cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before — so a change of plans never costs you money. Browse all five boat trips, check the current prices, and tell us if you are celebrating something. We like to know.
