Here is the honest version instead — because the guests who enjoy Side the most are the ones who arrive with the right expectations. The short answer: yes, for most people it is genuinely worth it, but not for the reasons a tropical brochure would give you. What the Mediterranean is — and what it is not
Honesty first: this is not the Red Sea or Southeast Asia. You will not find sprawling coral gardens or guaranteed encounters with big animals, and anyone promising you turtles on demand is not being straight with you. Mediterranean marine life is subtler — smaller reef fish, octopus hiding in crevices, seagrass meadows, the occasional surprise no one can schedule. What the Mediterranean does very well is water quality and comfort. Visibility along the Antalya coast is generally at its best from late spring to early summer and again in autumn, and the sea warms from around 17°C in winter to a bath-like 28–29°C in late summer. The Underwater Museum: the reason Side stands out
Here is the honest heart of the matter. Most Mediterranean resort towns offer pleasant but interchangeable dives. Side has something genuinely rare: the Side Underwater Museum — around 110 sculptures deliberately sunk at roughly 12 metres, forming an artificial reef you swim through rather than look at. It is surreal in the best way, the sculptures attract fish, and on our trip you even get to hand-feed them. What a full day actually includes
Value is part of any honest worth-it calculation. Every one of our five boat trips is a full day at sea with two guided dives, all equipment including wetsuit, free hotel transfer both ways, a fresh lunch cooked on board, passenger and diving insurance, and a complete briefing — at €43–50 per person depending on the trip. Beyond the museum: wrecks, caves and coastline
If you are certified or plan to come back, the coast has real variety. The Paris II wreck sits at 21–31 metres and the DO-28 aircraft at 19.5–23.3 metres — both for certified divers, the Paris II on request. Kemer offers the Three Islands with its 9-metre swim-through tunnel and the clearest-water cluster of the region; Alanya adds caves, the Amphora site and a coastline with a genuine monk-seal heritage — which we mention as heritage, never as a promised sighting. Who should honestly skip it
- Divers chasing tropical spectacle. If your benchmark is coral walls and mantas, the Mediterranean will underwhelm you — book your flight to the tropics instead, no hard feelings.
- Anyone excluded on medical grounds. Pregnancy, severe asthma, heart or serious respiratory conditions rule diving out; when in doubt, ask your doctor first.
- People who dislike boats. These are full boat days; there is no shore-only version of our trips.
- Deep-winter visitors expecting a full schedule. Many operators wind down in winter — message us for current availability rather than assuming.

Diving in Side is worth it if you value calm warm water, a genuinely unique museum dive, small groups and a well-fed day at sea — and it is not worth it if only a tropical reef will do.
