Side vs Antalya Diving: Honest Comparison

2026-07-27 ° 4 min read

Dive Side if the Underwater Museum is what pulls you: around 110 sculptures standing on the seabed at about 12 metres, gentle conditions and the most photogenic dive on this coast, for 45 EUR across a seven-hour day. Dive Antalya if you want a bigger, wilder seascape instead: open rock reefs, caves and shoals along the city coast, 50 EUR across eight hours. Both days include two guided dives, all equipment, free two-way hotel transfer, a fresh lunch on board and passenger plus diving insurance. You are not choosing between a good day and a lesser one, you are choosing between two very different underwater personalities.

What you actually see underwater

Side: sculpture, structure and close encounters

The Side Underwater Museum is unusual because it gives a nervous first-timer something to look at that does not depend on luck. Marine life moves and hides; sculptures do not. At roughly 12 metres the light is still generous, the figures are spaced so you can drift between them, and fish have colonised the whole installation, so you get architecture and biology in the same frame. Hand-feeding the fish is part of the day, and with three to four divers per instructor there is always someone within arm's reach to steady you or point something out. If you have never breathed underwater, this is about as forgiving as a first dive gets. The full walk-through is in our Side Underwater Museum guide, and the trip itself is here.

Antalya: reef, cave and open blue

The Antalya city coast is natural terrain rather than a curated exhibition. Rock reefs drop away into blue water, caves and overhangs give you something to swim along, and shoals gather where the water moves. It reads as wilder and less predictable, which is exactly the appeal for some divers and exactly the reason others prefer Side. Sightings vary with conditions, so we describe what the terrain offers rather than promising a species list. For certified divers the pull is depth and variety: standard certified dives run around 30 metres, and suitably qualified divers can go deeper on the serious sites. Details are on our certified diver trips page and on the Antalya dive day.

Price: 45 EUR against 50 EUR

The Side museum day is 45 EUR for about seven hours. The Antalya day is 50 EUR for about eight hours. Both give you two guided dives, so the per-dive arithmetic lands at roughly 22.50 EUR and 25 EUR. That five euro gap buys you a longer day, a longer boat ride and a different kind of seabed, not a better standard of guiding or equipment, which is identical on both. Nothing is hidden underneath: tank, regulator, BCD, wetsuit, mask, fins and weights are included, the transfer is included, lunch is included and insurance is included. You can compare every trip side by side on our prices page.

Transfer logic: your hotel decides more than you think

Both days include free two-way hotel transfer, which quietly makes location the deciding factor for a lot of guests. If you are staying in Side, Kumkoy, Colakli, Evrenseki or Manavgat, the museum day keeps your road time short and your water time long. If you are based towards Lara, Konyaalti or central Antalya, the logic flips and the city coast becomes the natural choice. Pickup is in the morning and we confirm your exact time the evening before, because it depends on where your hotel sits on the route. Our diving-from hub lists pickup coverage by resort.

Which one suits a first-time diver?

Side, most of the time. Beginners stay between five and eight metres on the morning dive and go to about thirteen metres maximum on the second, always with an instructor within arm's reach, and the museum gives that shallow window something worth looking at. Antalya absolutely works for beginners too, with the same depth model and the same supervision, but the terrain rewards divers who already feel comfortable in open water. If this is your first time in a mask, start with discover scuba diving and read our first-time guide.

Frequently Asked

Is Side or Antalya better for a first dive?+

Side, in most cases. The Underwater Museum sits at about 12 metres, so beginners see the main attraction while staying inside the 5 to 8 metre morning window and the roughly 13 metre maximum on the second dive, with an instructor within arm's reach throughout.

Why does the Antalya day cost 50 EUR and Side 45 EUR?+

The Antalya day is longer, about eight hours against seven, with a longer boat run to the reef and cave sites. Both include two guided dives, all equipment, transfer, lunch and insurance, so the difference is day length and terrain, not service level.

Can I do both trips in the same holiday?+

Yes, and many guests do. The museum and the Antalya city coast are different enough that the second day never feels repetitive. Message us for current availability rather than assuming both run on any given day.

Do I need my own equipment for either trip?+

No. Tank, regulator, BCD, wetsuit, mask, fins and weights are included on both days, along with free two-way hotel transfer, lunch on board and passenger plus diving insurance.
