Side Diving ° ATALAY TOUR · DIVE HOUSE

Is Kemer worth the drive from Side just to dive?

Short answer

For some guests, clearly yes; for others, honestly no. The Kemer day costs €43 and runs 8 hours from a Kemer departure, and what you buy with the extra road time is the clearest water on this coast plus the wreck ground where the Paris II lies at 21–31 metres. If you are certified, camera-minded or chasing visibility, go. If this is a nervous first dive, you get seasick, or you only have one free day, the €43 Kumköy trip or the €45 museum day serve you better.

What the extra hours actually buy you

Let us be precise about what is on the other end of that road. The Kemer diving day reaches the stretch of coast where the water runs clearest — rock and boulder seabed instead of fine sand, so less sediment in suspension — and the underwater terrain is more dramatic for it: rock formations, reef fish, octopus often spotted, and PADI-certified instructors who know the ground. It is also wreck country. The Paris II sits between 21 and 31 metres and Three Islands and the Lighthouse offers a tunnel at around 9 metres.

That combination is worth a lot to a specific kind of diver and very little to another. If you are certified, the deep sites out there are the reason to travel: you dive around 30 metres on standard certified dives, up to 60 metres on the deep ones when suitably qualified, and the Paris II only exists as an option on this trip. If you are diving for the first time, your dives happen at 5–8 metres and then around 13 metres maximum — a range that Kumköy, Alanya and Antalya also serve well. The clarity still helps a beginner's nerve, but it is a smaller prize than the wreck is for a certified diver.

Say yes if you are one of these three

The visibility-hunter. You have dived murky water somewhere before and it disappointed you. You want the day with the best chance of long sight lines and blue rather than green, and you are willing to spend road time on it. Kemer is your trip.

The certified diver. You have a card, a logbook and enough recent dives to be comfortable. The Paris II is the dive you will actually talk about at home, and no other departure on this coast puts you on it. Tell us your certification level when you reserve so the instructor can plan the profile — and pack your logbook, we sign and stamp them.

The photographer. Water clarity is the single biggest variable in an underwater photo, ahead of the camera you are holding. Clear water on a rocky reef with good light is worth more to your images than a shorter transfer. Bring your own mask if you dive better in one you know; everything else — tank, regulator, BCD, wetsuit, fins, weights — comes with the €43, along with the free two-way hotel transfer, lunch cooked on board and full insurance. Stay closer to home if this sounds like you

We would rather you had a good day than a long one. Stay close if you are nervous. A first-timer who has been in a minibus since early morning arrives at the boat already tired, and tiredness is the enemy of a calm first descent. The Kumköy trip — €43, 6 hours, departing Kumköy — is the shortest day we run and the gentlest introduction, right on the doorstep of the Side and Kumköy hotel belt.

Stay close if you get seasick, if you are travelling with children doing a try-dive from about age 10, or if a long day would eat the only free slot in your holiday. And stay close if what you actually want is the sight rather than the sight lines: the Side Underwater Museum day at €45 takes you over roughly 110 sunken sculptures at about 12 metres, in beginner-friendly depth, with 3–4 divers per instructor. That is the trip most guests remember, and it does not require a drive to the far west.

Whichever you pick: reserve free online, pay on the day in cash or by card, free cancellation up to 24 hours, and no flying within 24 hours of diving. Unsure? Ask us — we will tell you which day suits your hotel.

FAQ

Is the Kemer trip more expensive because of the distance?+

No. Kemer is €43, the same as Kumköy and Alanya, and the two-way hotel transfer is included at no extra cost. The only day that costs more is Antalya at €50; the museum day is €45. You are paying with time, not with money.

Can I do Kemer if I am staying in Alanya?+

You can, but it is the longest travel combination we have and we usually talk guests out of it. From an Alanya base the €43 Alanya day dives caves and rocky reefs in the Cleopatra Beach waters with the castle in view from the boat — a full day out without half of it spent on the road. Message us and we will be straight with you about the transfer.

Could I do two different trips in one holiday?+

Yes, and it is a good plan. A common pairing is a short Kumköy day first to find your feet, then the museum or Kemer later in the week once you know how you feel underwater. Leave a day between if you like, and remember the 24-hour rule before your flight home.
