Ask people when to dive in Side and most will say summer, because that is when they happen to be here. But along the Antalya coast, visibility is generally at its best in late spring to early summer and again in autumn — exactly the months when the beaches begin to empty. Put those two facts together and you get what divers call the sweet spot: water that is clear and calm, boats that are relaxed and unhurried, and instructors with more time for every guest. If you have the freedom to choose your travel dates, this article might save your holiday's best day.
The Water: Milder, Clearer, Calmer
In late spring the Mediterranean is warming steadily out of its winter lows toward its summer peak, and by early summer it is comfortable for long, easy dives. In autumn the process runs in reverse — and works in your favour: the sea holds its summer warmth for weeks after the crowds leave, cooling only gradually through October and November. In both seasons the water tends to be settled and clear, which matters underwater far more than a degree or two of temperature. Quieter Boats, More Attention
The biggest difference you feel in the shoulder seasons is not in the water — it is on the boat. Fewer guests means unhurried briefings, more time to practise skills at your own pace, and space to simply enjoy the ride along the coast. Our group sizes are always kept sensible — on the Underwater Museum trip it is 3–4 divers per instructor — but in spring and autumn the whole day breathes more easily. First-timers who feel nervous about learning in a crowd often find these months the gentlest possible introduction to diving.

- Two guided dives: a morning dive at 5–8 metres for 15–25 minutes, then an afternoon dive at 12–13 metres.

Where to Dive in Spring and Autumn
All five of our full-day trips run through the shoulder seasons, and two deserve a special mention. The Side Underwater Museum (€45, ~7h) is at its atmospheric best in clear, settled water — around 110 sculptures at roughly 12 metres, with fish you can feed by hand. And the Kemer trip (€43, ~8h) heads for the clearest-water cluster on the coast with PADI-certified instructors, which in the high-visibility months can be genuinely spectacular, including the famous 9-metre tunnel at Three Islands.
A Bonus for Certified Divers
If you already hold a certification, the quieter months are the perfect time to ask about the coast's deeper signature sites. The Paris II wreck lies at 21–31 metres and is available to certified divers on request, as is the DO-28 aircraft wreck at 19.5–23.3 metres. Neither is a standard beginner stop — they are certified-only, arranged in advance — but with calm seas and good visibility, spring and autumn are when they reward the trip most. Bring your certification card and logbook, and we will sign your dives at the end of the day.
Practical Notes for Shoulder-Season Divers
Book with confidence: reservation is free, you pay on the day, and cancellation is free up to 24 hours before the trip — useful flexibility in months when you may want to pick your day around the weather. Remember the universal rule that you should not fly within 24 hours of diving. And if you are travelling with family, try-dives are available from around age 10, with a Bubblemaker-style option for children of about 8–10 if you ask, while non-diving companions can join as visitors or snorkelers at a reduced rate.
