What the Sea Feels Like in Side in Summer
By high summer the Mediterranean off Side has soaked up months of sunshine, and it shows. The water warms steadily through July and peaks at around 28–29°C in late August — genuinely warm, the kind of sea you can stay in without ever clenching your jaw. For first-time divers this matters more than almost anything else: when your body is comfortable, you breathe slowly, you relax, and every skill your instructor teaches you becomes easier. We still provide a wetsuit on every trip, together with all the rest of the equipment, because even warm water slowly draws heat from you over two dives — but in August the suit feels more like a comfort than a necessity.
Why Summer Diving Days Start Early
Summer is our busiest season, and the day has a rhythm to it. Pickups happen in the morning, and we confirm your exact pickup time the evening before, once the day's route is planned. There are good reasons to be glad about the early start. The sea is usually at its calmest before midday, which makes the boat ride smoother and the entries easier. You complete your first dive while the coast is still waking up, and you are back at your hotel with the whole evening ahead of you. An early boat is also a quieter boat: briefings are unhurried, and there is time for every question.
How a Summer Diving Day Unfolds
Every one of our full-day boat trips follows the same proven structure. A free two-way hotel transfer brings you to the boat, the instructors run a complete briefing — breathing, equalizing, hand signals, safety — and then you make two guided dives. The morning dive stays at a gentle 5–8 metres for 15–25 minutes, which is exactly enough to learn what breathing underwater feels like without any pressure to perform. After a fresh lunch cooked on board, the afternoon dive takes you to 12–13 metres, where the real scenery lives. Passenger and diving insurance are included, beginners need no licence at all, and certified divers get their logbooks signed at the end of the day.
The Underwater Museum: Summer's Star Attraction
If you dive only once this summer, make it the Side Underwater Museum trip (€45, about 7 hours). Around 110 sculptures rest at roughly 12 metres — a sunken gallery that has slowly become a living reef — and the afternoon dive depth lines up perfectly with it. You can hand-feed the fish that have made the statues home, and groups are kept small at 3–4 divers per instructor, so nobody is ever lost in a crowd. In the bright, high summer light the site is at its most photogenic; underwater photo and video can be arranged as an optional extra if you want to take the day home with you.
An Honest Word About Summer Visibility
We will not pretend midsummer is the clearest the Mediterranean ever gets — along the Antalya coast visibility is generally at its best in late spring to early summer and again in autumn. In July and August the water is still blue and inviting, and the morning dive usually catches the calmest, cleanest conditions of the day. Summer Practicalities Worth Knowing
- Drink more water than you think you need. Sun, salt and two dives are dehydrating, even when you never feel hot.
- Bring sun protection for the boat. Between dives you are on deck in strong sunshine; a hat and cream go a long way.
- Do not fly within 24 hours of diving. Plan your dive day at least a full day before your flight home.
- Book ahead in July and August. Reservation is free, you pay on the day, and cancellation is free up to 24 hours before — so there is no reason not to secure your spot early.
- Bring the family. Try-dives are available from around age 10, there is a Bubblemaker-style option for younger children of about 8–10 if you ask us, and non-diving companions can join the boat as visitors or snorkelers at a reduced rate.
