Side Diving ° ATALAY TOUR · DIVE HOUSE

Can I dive and still have my afternoon free?

Short answer

On the six-hour Kumköy trip, €43, yes — realistically. You are collected from your hotel in the morning, dive twice, eat lunch on board and are back in the afternoon with your evening intact. What we will not do is promise a clock time: boats work to sea conditions and to the hotel transfer round, so treat the return as an approximate window, not an appointment.

What a six-hour day actually costs you in real time

Six hours is the length of the trip, and it is honest to add the transfer legs at either end when you plan around it. The pickup is in the morning and the exact time is confirmed to you the evening before, because the driver's route depends on which hotels are on the round that day. From the Side and Kumköy hotel belt those legs are short, which is precisely why this is the day that leaves an afternoon standing.

Compare that with the alternatives. The Side Underwater Museum day runs about seven hours, and Kemer, Antalya and Alanya run eight — those are whole-day commitments, and pretending otherwise would only make you late for whatever you booked next. The Kumköy diving trip is the one built like a long morning rather than a full day out, and at €43 it is also our joint-lowest price.

One thing that does not shrink with the day: two guided dives, all equipment, lunch, insurance, the full briefing and the two-way transfer are all included exactly as on the longer trips.

What the free afternoon is realistically good for

Plan the second half of the day around things that start when you arrive, not at a fixed hour. Good afternoon plans after a dive day:

  • A shower, a rest by the pool, and dinner in Side's old town in the evening.
  • The beach — you will be salty, tired and pleasantly heavy, which suits a sun lounger perfectly.
  • A wander through the ruins or the harbour, where you set the pace.
  • Shopping or a hammam booked loosely rather than to the minute.

What we would not plan for the same afternoon: a second excursion with a fixed departure, a hire-car return with a hard deadline, or anything that punishes you for being an hour late. Also, and this one is not negotiable, no flying within 24 hours of diving — a free afternoon does not make a departure-day dive safe. Alcohol is a poor idea straight after diving too; leave it until the evening.

If you are trying to work out how many days of your holiday diving should take, we go through it in is one diving day enough on holiday.

The honest caveat about return times

Any operator who gives you a precise return time for a boat day is guessing, and we would rather be useful than confident. Three things move the schedule: the sea, the size of the group, and the transfer round on the way home. A lively morning breeze can change where the boat dives; a full boat takes longer to kit up and get in; and if your hotel is late in the drop-off order, you are home after the guests staying nearer the harbour.

So the practical rule is this: plan the afternoon with a margin, and plan the evening firmly. The evening is genuinely safe on a six-hour day — the afternoon is comfortable but not to the minute. If a specific commitment matters, tell us when you book and we will tell you honestly whether it works.

Booking is designed to protect that flexibility too. You reserve free online with no prepayment, pay on the day in cash or card, and cancel free up to 24 hours before. If your plans shift while you are still on holiday, nothing is trapped. Prices for all five days are on the prices page, and you can message us with your schedule before you decide.

FAQ

What time is the hotel pickup?+

In the morning, and the exact time is confirmed to you the evening before rather than published in advance — it depends on which hotels are on the driver's round that day. If you need to know roughly for planning, message us with your hotel and we will give you an honest estimate.

Can I dive in the morning and fly home in the evening?+

No. You must not fly within 24 hours of diving, and a short day changes nothing about that. Dive on your second-to-last day at the latest. If your last day is free but your flight is that evening, come along as a non-diving boat visitor at a reduced rate instead.

Is there time to eat, or should I plan lunch afterwards?+

Lunch is cooked and served on board and is included in the €43 — it is eaten during the surface interval between the two dives, which is when you would be waiting anyway. Come back hungry for dinner, not for lunch.
