Side Diving ° ATALAY TOUR · DIVE HOUSE

Can my partner come along without diving?

Short answer

Yes, and it is one of the most common ways people book with us. A non-diver joins the same boat as a visitor at a reduced rate: same free hotel pickup, same route, same fresh lunch cooked on board, sun deck and swim stops all day, with snorkelling over the shallow spots while you make your two dives. We do not publish the visitor rate because it varies with the trip, so ask when you reserve and we will confirm it before the day.

What the visitor's day actually looks like

The important thing to understand is that nobody gets dropped off anywhere. You are collected from your hotel together, you travel to the harbour together, and you come home together. A visitor is not a spectator on a jetty; they are on the boat for the entire day.

Once the boat is anchored the day splits for an hour or so at a time. Divers kit up, get their briefing and go down with the instructor. Everyone else has the boat: the sun deck, the shade, the ladder into the water. At most of our stops you can swim straight off the back, and there is time to float around with a mask over the shallower rock and sand before the divers surface.

Then it comes back together. Lunch is cooked on board and eaten by everyone at the same table, which is usually when the divers start describing what they saw with their hands. The afternoon dive follows the same pattern, and then the boat runs back and the minibus takes you both to your hotel. Insurance covers passengers as well as divers, so a visitor is covered for the whole day too.

How mixed couples and families usually run it

After enough seasons you see the same four patterns:

  • One dives, one snorkels. The classic. Works on all five trips and needs no planning beyond telling us the numbers.
  • Both try it, one continues. Both do the first dive at 5–8 metres, then one decides that was plenty and spends the afternoon on deck. Perfectly normal — say so on board and the rate is adjusted honestly.
  • Parents alternate. One dives in the morning, one in the afternoon, and the children stay with whoever is on the boat. Try-dives are possible from about age ten, so an older child may want their own turn.
  • The sceptic converts. Someone comes purely to keep company, watches the first group come up grinning, and asks about a try dive over lunch. Mention it before the day if there is any chance of this, so a set of kit and an instructor slot are set aside.

If your non-diver is unsure about a long day at sea, the six-hour Kumköy trip is the shortest we run and the easiest introduction to a boat day. Full detail on the visitor seat is on the snorkelling and boat visitor page.

Which trip is best for the person who is not diving

Honest answer: the trips are not equal from the surface, so choose with your partner in mind rather than only yourself.

Kemer has the clearest water on this coast, which matters far more to a snorkeller than to a diver — clarity is what turns a mask into a window. Alanya gives the best day of looking upward rather than downward: rocky coves in the Cleopatra Beach waters and Alanya Castle standing over the boat as you come in and out of the harbour.

The Side Underwater Museum deserves a straight warning. Its roughly 110 sculptures sit at about twelve metres, and that is deeper than snorkelling reaches in any useful way — on a clear day you may make out shapes and shadows below you, but the museum is genuinely a diver's experience. If the museum is the reason your partner is curious, the better answer is not to bring them as a visitor but to look at a try dive for them, since beginners reach about thirteen metres on their second dive with an instructor at arm's length.

FAQ

Is snorkelling gear provided for a visitor?+

There is a mask, snorkel and fins on board for guests to use, but sizes are limited, so if you have your own mask that fits well, bring it. Say when you reserve that one of you is coming as a visitor and we will have a set ready.

Can a non-swimmer come as a boat visitor?+

Yes. Plenty of visitors never get in the water at all and spend the day on the sun deck with the coastline going past. Nobody is asked to swim, and life jackets are on board if you want to float at a swim stop without being a confident swimmer.

Can my partner decide to dive once we are on the boat?+

It is much better to tell us the evening before, so an instructor slot and a set of kit are reserved. Spare capacity on the day is not guaranteed, and every diver has to complete the standard diving medical questionnaire first — anything flagged on it needs a doctor's sign-off.
