November is the quiet tail of the diving season in Side — and, for divers who catch it, one of the best days of the year. The sea still holds around 21 °C, warmer than the air on many mornings, because the Mediterranean gives its summer heat back slowly. Autumn is also one of the two clearest windows on this coast: the summer plankton has settled and the water opens up. The catch is departures — fewer boats run this late, so availability varies week to week. Message us before you build a day around it.
What does 21 °C feel like? In a 5 mm full wetsuit the first dive is comfortable; you notice the cool on your hands and neck rather than your body. November announces itself on the second dive — you start it already damp, so a hood or vest under the suit is worth asking for, and the real chill arrives on deck, when the breeze hits wet neoprene. Bring a warm dry layer for the surface interval and temperature stops being a subject. The gear is all included; just say you feel the cold.
Light behaves differently now. Visibility is generous, but the sun sits low, the day is short and colours mute earlier as you descend — a torch switches the rock overhangs and the shaded sides of the Underwater Museum statues back on. Boats carry a handful of people instead of a full deck: more instructor attention on a discovery dive, unhurried near-private profiles for certified divers on the deeper sites. Pack a windproof jacket, a beanie, a full change of clothes and a towel still dry at the end — more useful now than a spare swimsuit.
Who suits November? Certified divers who want clarity and space, photographers, and anyone who would rather share a boat with four people than forty. Beginners are welcome too — a 5–8 m first dive is warm enough with an instructor at arm's reach. The sea lags well behind the air, so it stays noticeably warmer than an autumn morning on land — it falls from the late-summer peak of about 28–29 °C toward the winter low of roughly 17 °C. In a 5 mm suit that is comfortable diving; a hood or vest makes the second dive of the day much nicer.
Usually yes — autumn is one of the two best visibility periods on this coast, along with late spring and early summer, because the summer plankton has cleared. Conditions still change with wind and swell from day to day, so nothing is guaranteed, but November days are often strikingly clear. Bring or borrow a torch: the sun is low, and colour drops off sooner than in July.
